I wrote this poem during my first year in the Army, circa 2011. At the time I was stationed at Fort Bragg with the 503rd MP Battalion, 118th MP Compnay.
I wrote this based on the Soliders combat memorial and to this day it has been one of my favorite things I have written. So much so, I used it in Virgil Team.
This poem is dedicated to my fellow veterans and our fallen brothers and sisters.
Soliders Never Die
Boots lined up against the wall,
In silent remembrance of them all.
But brother, brother don’t you cry.
Don’t you know? Soldiers never die.
Rifles that stand hold a solemn truth,
Freedom is won because of their use.
But sister, sister don’t you cry.
Don’t you know? Soldiers never die.
Helmets tilted to the side.
Hide the pain, but never the pride.
But daddy, daddy don’t you cry.
Don’t you know? Soldiers never die.
Tags that hang have a name in print,
A name and legacy that will be missed.
But momma, momma don’t you cry.
Didn’t you know? Soldiers never die.
